Anton Lamboj is an ichthyologist and lecturer at the University of Vienna, with a strong passion for aquaristics. His primary focus is on cichlid fishes from Western Africa, utilizing morphological, anatomical, ethological, and molecular methods in his research. Recently, he has concentrated on the conservation biology of riverine cichlids from this region. He also has an interest in anabantoid fishes from Asia, which face increasing environmental pressures. Anton has conducted numerous field trips across Africa, Southeast Asia, Australia, and the Americas to study fish in their natural habitats and assess their ecological and conservation needs. He has published over 450 academic and aquaristic papers in eleven languages, including six books and contributions to about 40 others. He holds honorary memberships in several aquarium organizations, such as the Austrian Federation of Aquarium and Terrarium Clubs and the French Cichlid Association. Currently, Anton promotes various ex-situ conservation programs in collaboration with public aquariums and aquarist groups. His expertise spans South America, Central America, North America, Africa, Asia, and Southeast Asia, particularly in the fish groups Perciformes (Cichlidae), Cyprinodontiformes, and Anabantiformesntiformes
